The CEO Power Hour: Stop Faffing and Start Growing

14th February 2026

ceo power hour

In my last post, I told you to stop being your own worst client and book an unbreakable appointment with yourself.

But I know what happens next. You sit down for that hour, you open your laptop, and you spend forty minutes “tidying” your Canva folders or scrolling through Facebook “for research.”

That isn’t business development. That is procrasticleaning.

In the military, we didn’t just have time slots; we had mission objectives. If you want your business to grow, your CEO time needs a clear, no-nonsense structure. Here is how to run a CEO Power Hour that actually moves the needle.

The Ground Rules

Before the clock starts, you must set the environment.

  • Communications Blackout: Phone on “Do Not Disturb.” Close Slack. Close your client email tabs.

  • The Single Objective: Do not try to “do some marketing.” Pick one specific, high-value task—one blog post, one sales email, or one system update.

  • The Timer: Set it for 60 minutes. When it pings, you are done.

The 60-Minute Mission Profile

1. The Tactical Prep (5 Minutes)

Do not waste time deciding what to do. Pull up the one document or tool you need for your chosen task. If you are writing a blog, open the draft. If you are updating your onboarding process, open the workflow. Clear every other tab off your screen.

2. High-Value Execution (45 Minutes)

This is the “heavy lifting” phase. You have one job: Finish the task you identified in the prep phase. Whether it is doing your accounts or writing a blog post, stay on that one task until it is done or the 45 minutes are up. No pivoting, no checking “just one thing” on Google, and no switching to a different project because this one got difficult.

If your chosen objective for the hour is Marketing, do not just aimlessly post to social media. Split your 45-minute execution block into two tactical strikes:

  • Visibility (20 Minutes): This is your “active” marketing. Direct, outward-facing activity. Do not just post a quote; send three personalised follow-up messages to warm leads, or leave five high-value, insightful comments on the posts of your “dream” clients on LinkedIn. Get noticed by the right people.

  • Asset Building (25 Minutes): This is your “passive” marketing. Build something that works while you sleep. Spend the rest of the block drafting a long-form blog post, refining your email nurture sequence, or updating the copy on your “Services” or “About” page.

By splitting the time this way, you ensure you are generating immediate traction while also building the foundations that fuels your long-term growth.

3. The Sitrep (10 Minutes)

The “Situation Report” is vital. You cannot lead a business if you don’t know the numbers.

  • Check the Cash: Open your bank account. Who owes you money? Have you sent those invoices?

  • Review Your Milestones: Check your “Good, Better, Best” targets. Are you on track for the month?

  • Next Mission: Identify the high-value task for your next CEO Power Hour. Write it down now in your planner so you can hit the ground running next time.

No Excuses, Just Action

If you spend this hour “researching” or “organising,” you have failed the mission. This hour is for revenue-generating or system-building activities only.

You are the CEO. Act like it. Treat this hour with the same respect you would give a client. Your business will not grow because you are “busy”, it will only grow because you are intentional with your actions. So let’s be intentional…

Ready for Real Accountability and Intentionality?

It is easy to skip your own Power Hour when you are working in a vacuum. It is much harder to skip it when you have a room full of other VAs doing the same.

In The VA Membership, we hold weekly 90-minute co-working sessions every Friday at 09:30. We don’t just talk about business growth; we sit down and do the work together. I literally keep a list of jobs to do in this hour each week. (My list: accounts, blog, write newsletter!)

If you want the templates, the training, and the straight-talking community to help you scale, come and join us in the VA Membership.
