I couldn’t train every single VA in the UK even if I wanted to. I would be exhausted, and frankly, I don’t want to work with everyone. More importantly, not everyone will want to work with me. Although in recent years, I have stopped letting other Coaches and Trainers into my free Facebook community – as one person kept copying my offerings and blog posts!
I have a very particular style. I am direct, I am honest, and I don’t sugar-coat the reality of running a business. I don’t “blow smoke,” and I’m certainly not “pink and fluffy.” If you want someone to tell you what you want to hear rather than what you need to hear, I am not your person.
If we have a discovery call and I realise we aren’t a good fit, or if I know another trainer who specialises in exactly what you need, I will tell you. That is servant leadership in action. It is about getting you the best result, not just protecting my bottom line.
Think about the successful trainers globally. We all do well because we all bring something unique to the table. We have different life experiences, different business backgrounds, and different ways of thinking.
While we might share similar values, none of us are identical. The trainers who truly lead the industry share a few vital traits: we are collaborators, we are passionate, and we operate with a spirit of generosity. (I am lucky enough to have trained, coached and mentored some of them.)
If you are currently losing sleep over what other VAs in your area are doing, you need to stop. Right now.
It does not matter where you are in your business journey. Clients do not just buy a service; they buy into you. They choose you because of your values, your ethics, your specific energy, and your professional standards.
Yes, having a niche helps you stand out, but don’t die in a ditch if you haven’t identified one yet. Your personality and your “no-nonsense” approach to getting the job done are often niche enough to start with.
The most successful VAs I know are the ones who collaborate. They support their peers, share resources, and don’t panic if another VA wins a contract. This mindset doesn’t just make them “nice” people; it makes them incredibly attractive to clients.
It signals a high level of confidence. It shows you understand your own worth so deeply that you don’t feel threatened by the success of others.
In this industry, it is about being authentic and being excellent at what you do. When you stop looking over your shoulder at the competition, you can finally focus on the person who matters most: your client.
I want to hear from you. Have you been viewing other VAs as a threat or as potential collaborators? I have a free competitor analysis workbook on the resources page of my website. For me, knowing who they are and what they do is more about potential collaborations than competing against each other.
