Show Your Personality on Social Media

22nd February 2026

show your personality on social media

There is more to life than the constant grind of marketing and client work. If your social media feed is nothing but a relentless stream of sales pitches, you aren’t doing yourself any justice. You are simply becoming a digital noise that people will eventually tune out or unfollow.

In the VA world, we talk a lot about “Know, Like, and Trust.” Clients aren’t just buying a set of administrative skills; they are buying into you. They need to know that the person handling their business is a real human being with values, a sense of humour, and a life outside of the home office.

Being professional doesn’t mean being a robot. I’m known for being straight-talking and no-nonsense, but my clients also know I’m a military veteran and a mum to two boys. That isn’t “fluff”, it’s context. It makes me relatable and approachable.

Here are five ways to inject some personality into your social media without losing your professional edge:

1. Share Your Humour

I’m not suggesting you post a string of questionable jokes. However, sharing a brief, funny anecdote about your day, a mishap with the dog, or a “parenting win” (or fail) makes you human. People do business with people. A shared laugh is often the quickest way to break the ice with a potential lead.

2. What Are Your Weekend Plans?

Are you spending your Saturday on the sidelines of a freezing rugby pitch? (That’s normally me!) Or perhaps you’re volunteering for a local charity or taking part in a Parkrun? My weekends are usually a military operation of juggling my sons’ social lives; which are far more active than mine. Sharing these glimpses invites others to commiserate or connect over shared interests.

3. Travel and the “Work From Anywhere” Reality

Whether you are heading off on a holiday or working from a different location for the week, share it. I often post photos of my “office for the day.” I’m not doing it to gloat; I’m doing it to demonstrate that the freedom and flexibility we promise as VAs is a reality. It starts conversations about vision, lifestyle goals, and the practicalities of remote work.

4. The Behind-the-Scenes View

You don’t need to post a photo of every meal you eat, but showing your actual workspace—messy desk and all—proves you are a real person and not an AI bot. If the weather is rubbish and you’re stuck inside, ask a “would you rather” question to get people talking. Engagement is the goal here.

5. How You Decompress

What motivates you to push through a heavy workload? Is it the prospect of a walk with the dog, a hobby that keeps you out of mischief, or simply switching off to spend time with your family? Showing what you do to relax helps your audience understand your “why.”

What’s Next?

These are simple ways to show you are a real person running a real business. There is no one-size-fits-all approach because every VA is unique. This month, I want you to showcase what makes you you. We really do need you to stand out from other VAs.

Stop hiding behind a corporate mask. Glimpses into your real life will attract the right clients—the ones who align with your values and personality.
