Are you being productive for your VA business as well as for your clients? Part 1

are you being productive for your va business part 1

Are You Walking Your Talk? Why Even VAs Need to Outsource

Do you ever notice your habits when you’re desperate to get more done? You likely find yourself working late into the evening, frantically multitasking. But be honest: what is the actual quality of your work when you’re exhausted or splitting your focus?

In the long run, this pace is unsustainable. Eventually, something gives. You become stressed, productivity plummets, and you risk letting down the very people you’re trying to support.

Productivity vs. Busyness

Productivity isn’t about how “busy” you are; it’s about the measurable results of what you have accomplished.

As a VA, you encourage your clients to outsource so they can focus on their “Zone of Genius.” But are you walking your talk? Even as a service provider, leveraging your time through outsourcing is essential.

Investing in Your Own Business

Beyond your client deliverables, how much time are you dedicating to your own business growth? If you’re struggling to work on your own brand without a clear strategy, your productivity will always suffer.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I struggling with tools that aren’t in my skillset?

  • Is this “DIY” approach eating up my most valuable hours?

  • Who do I know who could handle this task faster and better than I can?

Audit Your Energy

Reclaiming your time starts with self-awareness. Start by logging your activities to see exactly where your hours are leaking. Look at the time spent on low-value tasks and frequent interruptions. Do you have a call minder to handle those mid-flow phone calls?

Once you see the data, look at your internal clock. When do you produce your most outstanding work?

For me, mornings are for ideas and planning, while afternoons are for practical, “doing” tasks. Understanding your patterns allows you to schedule high-detail client work for your peak performance windows and save creative or administrative tasks for other times. It’s a simple shift, but it’s incredibly effective.

Coming Up in Part Two: I’ll share how to get truly motivated, handle interruptions like a pro, and finally stop the cycle of overwhelm. Read part 2 now
