Persistence is the single biggest predictor of business success. You can have all the passion and motivation in the world, but without the determination to take action, you have nothing.
Whether you call it grit, perseverance, or committed action, persistence is what drives a Virtual Assistant business forward. It is the choice to keep going when the going gets tough, to push on through the fear, and to stay positive even when you feel like you are standing still. Persistence is not a personality trait; it is a choice you make every single day.
If you want to reach the top, you need to build your levels of persistence. Here are ten direct pointers to help you stay the course.
You must find ways to stay inspired. Remind yourself of your “why” daily. This is the core reason you started your VA business, and it is the best tool you have for staying enthusiastic when the workload gets heavy.
Do not leave your focus to chance. Establish a routine or ritual that gets your head in the right space every morning. Whether it is journaling, visualisation, or reviewing your goals, do what is necessary to ensure you are focused on what you want to achieve.
Optimism is the confident belief that you will achieve your goals, regardless of how your current bank balance or calendar looks. Practice gratitude and celebrate your wins. Never allow yourself to doubt the eventual outcome.
Part of being confident is shuting down that negative voice in your head. You know the one: it doubts your abilities and resists any form of change. Acknowledge it, then ignore it. You have work to do.
Do not mistake being busy for being productive. Action for the sake of action is a waste of time. Ensure every task you complete is in line with your ultimate goals. Social media is a prime example of this; scrolling through groups is not “taking action” if those people are not your target audience.
Mistakes, mishaps, and setbacks are not signs to stop. They are learning curves. If you stop looking at a “wrong turn” as a negative and start seeing it as data for your next move, your persistence will skyrocket.
Persistence does not mean working yourself into the ground. If you want to be effective and efficient, you must take breaks. A rested mind is a persistent mind.
If you are constantly miserable waiting for the end result, you will give up. Remind yourself that you are exactly where you need to be right now. Enjoy the process of building your business, even on the quiet days.
This is not just about having someone to talk to. A support network allows you to delegate, get advice, and stay motivated. Whether it is a mentor or fellow VAs in the VA Momentum Course, having a sounding board keeps your persistence levels high.
You need to be physically and mentally strong enough for the journey. If you are exhausted, your persistence will fail. Eat well, sleep enough, and exercise. Treat your body with the same respect and dedication you show your business.
Do you agree that persistence is the key factor in business success? Which of these ten points hit home for you today?
