Building your own VA business is a series of highs and lows. There will be days when everything clicks and you are thrilled to be your own boss. But there will also be disappointments: the client who doesn’t sign, the project that goes sideways, or the quiet month that triggers your doubt.
When those hits happen, you cannot afford to stay down. You need a strategy to boost your confidence and get back into a forward focused mindset. Use these ten no-nonsense tips as your plan of action whenever you need to regain your footing.
Stop comparing your middle to someone else’s end. Remind yourself exactly why you are special and what unique expertise you bring to the VA world. Believe in your ability to reach your goals, and if you are struggling, look back at your previous successes as cold, hard evidence that you know what you are doing.
Success is not just about hitting that massive end goal. It is about the daily progress. Acknowledge the small victories—finishing a difficult task, clearing your inbox, or having a great discovery call. Every win counts.
Do not underestimate the power of being grateful. Make it a habit to focus on what is working in your life and business every single day. When you focus on gratitude, you shift your perspective from what you lack to what you have.
When the daily grind feels heavy, remind yourself why you started. Regularly visualise your end result. Whether it is a certain income level or the freedom to pick your kids up from school, keep that destination at the front of your mind.
Looking for the positives is a choice. It is just as vital as gratitude. Even in a difficult situation, ask yourself what the lesson is or what the silver lining might be.
Baggage is heavy. Whether it is a past mistake you are still stewing over or a client who is no longer a good fit for your business, let it go. You cannot move forward at speed if you are dragging around things that no longer serve you.
Action is the best antidote to fear. Regardless of how you feel or how busy you are, commit to at least one action every day that moves your business forward. One step is better than standing still.
Perfectionism is just procrastination in a fancy suit. Do not let the need to be “perfect” hold you back. An imperfectly launched service is infinitely better than a perfect idea that never sees the light of day. Stay focused on moving, not faffing.
Do not let pride or stubbornness stall your growth. Whether you need help with the housework so you can focus on a deadline or help with a technical task, ask for it. You do not get an award for doing it all alone.
Surround yourself with the right people. Whether it is a supportive community of fellow VAs or a dedicated mentor, you will move further and faster when you have support. If you are looking for that structured environment, the VA Momentum Course or our VA Membership are designed to give you exactly that.
Confidence is a muscle; you need to train it every day. Which of these steps will you implement today to get back on track?
