Why do people use a VA?

3rd March 2026

why do people use a va

I recently revisited an old piece from The Telegraph. Even though it was written back in 2010, the core message is as sharp and relevant today in 2026 as it was then. It tackled a fundamental question: why do successful people delegate?

For anyone sitting on the fence about becoming a Virtual Assistant, this is your wake-up call. The opportunities in this industry are vast, but you have to understand the mechanics of why clients actually buy our services.

Most business owners start with a fire in their belly and a clear vision. Then, the “day-to-day” hits. They get bogged down in the minutiae, lose their momentum, and eventually, they lose sight of the goals that prompted them to start the business in the first place. Smart entrepreneurs recognise that they cannot do it all. To scale, they must delegate.

We are seeing a massive shift in how the business world operates. It is no longer just about small startups. Larger organisations are downsizing their permanent headcounts and turning to freelance professionals—VAs, HR consultants, and accountants—to get the job done without the overheads. Whether you listen to seasoned entrepreneurs or read classics like Michael Gerber’s The E-Myth Revisited, the message is identical: do what you are great at and outsource the rest.

If you are worried that the market is saturated, stop. That is a myth. Demand is higher than ever because more people are realising that delegation is the only way to avoid burnout and business failure.

The VA industry is not a “hobby” career. It is a vital part of the modern economy. If you want to understand how you fit into this landscape without the fluff or the sales pitch, book a discovery call with me. We can look at the reality of the industry and see if it is the right move for you.
