Many small business owners dismiss blogging as a waste of time. They argue that running a business is demanding enough without the added pressure of writing regular articles. This is a short sighted view. In reality, blogging is one of the most effective tools in your arsenal for building authority and attracting the right clients.
If you are a Virtual Assistant looking to scale, you need to be visible. As we teach in the VA Momentum Course, your online presence is your shop front. If that front is dusty and outdated, potential clients will keep walking. Here is why a regular blog is non-negotiable for your business.
Whether you get hundreds of comments or none at all, a blog builds trust. It gives visitors a chance to experience your expertise and personality without any initial commitment. By posting consistently, you prove your reliability. When people know they can count on you for a new post every Tuesday, they start to believe they can count on you for their business needs too.
Search engines love fresh, relevant content. Regularly updating your site with posts that use specific keywords will help you rank higher. Think about the problems your target market is trying to solve and use those terms in your writing. If you are not appearing in searches, you are invisible to new prospects.
This is the single biggest benefit. Blogging positions you as an expert in your field. it is your platform to showcase your unique talents and share your professional passion. Over time, you build a virtual library of high value content. This material is an asset you can later repurpose into training programmes, webinars, or even a book.
If you use WordPress, setting up is straightforward. Create a new page titled Blog. Navigate to General Settings and then Reading to ensure your Posts page is directed to this new page. If you do not use WordPress, instruct your website designer to set up a dedicated blog area for you.
To create a post, simply go to Posts and Add New. Enter your title and content, then either click Publish to go live immediately or use the Edit button to schedule the post for a future date.
Blogging is only as difficult as you make it. The most important factor is commitment. Decide on a schedule—whether that is once a week or once a fortnight—and stick to it. Consistency is what separates a hobbyist from a business owner.
How often are you posting on your site? If you are struggling to get started, what is the main hurdle standing in your way? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
