Ways to Add Value to Your VA Clients Without Discounting Your Invoice

27th June 2026

ways to add value to your clients

As a VA, you add value by delivering a great service. Clients pay you for your time and expertise, so it makes sense that when you think about adding more value, your mind jumps straight to offering a discount or throwing in extra services for free.

But adding value does not have to mean giving more away financially. There are plenty of ways to strengthen your client relationships, raise your business standards, and even give your business a financial boost, all without touching your prices.

Here are seven practical ways to add value to your clients while building a stronger, more professional business.

1. Expand your services

This one does involve offering more, but it is just as much about your own development as it is about your clients. Staying on top of what is happening in the VA industry and growing your skillset means you are always able to offer more as your experience builds. VACT has a number of ways to support your professional development, so it is worth checking those out.

2. Grow your outsourcing team

Offering more services does not have to mean more work for you. If you bring Associates into your business, it can actually mean less. You might work with a ghost-writer, or a VA Associate who specialises in something you do not currently offer, such as bookkeeping or creating Standard Operating Procedures. This is one of the reasons VA Membership is so popular. It connects you with other VAs and helps you see the real potential of outsourcing to Associates.

3. Hold regular reviews

Clients feel valued when they feel heard. Taking time for regular check-ins shows your clients you are invested in how things are going, and gives you a chance to spot ways to improve what you are already offering. Our article on the importance of a client review is worth a read if you want to use this tool well.

4. Under promise and over deliver

If you want clients to feel genuinely happy with your service, aim to under promise and over deliver. This gives you room to create those small “wow” moments, and stops you putting yourself under pressure to hit deadlines that were never realistic to begin with.

5. Be proactive

A proactive VA takes an active interest in their client’s business, almost as if it were their own. Look for opportunities to offer feedback, spot solutions, and flag things before your client even has to ask. Our article on how to be proactive instead of reactive is a good place to start if this does not come naturally yet.

6. Focus on quality, not on you

The fastest way to improve your service is to shift your focus away from yourself and firmly onto your client. That means consistently delivering the right solution and the best quality you can, regardless of how many hours you are working or what level of service you are providing. Every single time, no exceptions.

7. Stay in touch

Beyond regular reviews, small gestures go a long way in helping clients feel valued. Send a Christmas card. Make an introduction that could genuinely help them. Drop a message of support when you know they are having a tough week, or send your congratulations when they launch something new.

Adding value is not always about money. Sometimes it is simply about being reliable, being supportive, and doing exactly what you said you would do. Take a look through these seven ideas and think about which ones you could build into an action plan for your business.
