The VA marketplace is crowded. That is a fact. But a crowded room is only a problem if you are standing in the corner hoping to be noticed. If you want your business to thrive, you need to be memorable.
Staying at the forefront of this industry requires more than just “doing the work.” It requires a strategic, honest approach to how you show up. Here is how you ensure you are the one clients remember.
Not all VAs are the same. If you try to be everything to everyone, you become nothing to anyone. Get clear on what makes you different. Is it a specific technical skill, a background in a niche industry, or the way you solve problems? Whether it is your military precision or your ability to manage high-level projects, own it.
People buy from people. Your “why” is the engine of your brand. Do not hide behind a corporate mask; share your story. Why did you start this business? Who are you driven to help, and why do they matter to you? When you are authentic about your journey, you build a connection that a “pink and fluffy” marketing message never could.
You cannot be at the forefront of the marketplace if you only show up when you feel like it. Visibility requires discipline. You need to demonstrate that you are here for the long haul.
Your marketing message must be clear and frequent. If you are inconsistent, the algorithms—and your potential clients—will forget you. Set a schedule, stop making excuses, and stick to it.
Most business owners hear the word “value” and immediately think “cheap.” This is a mistake. Value is about quality and impact, not just the figures on an invoice.
While it is sensible to understand what your competitors are charging, do not let their pricing dictate your worth. Focus on providing high-quality service and content that actually solves your clients’ problems. That is where true value lies.
Clients do not care about the “features” of your service; they care about how their life changes because of you. Do not just tell them you offer SEO services. Tell them their business will be found by the right people without them having to waste money on ads. Focus on the result, not the task.
You must have your finger on the pulse. This means staying updated on your own industry and the industries your clients operate in. If you are not adapting to new trends and technology, you are falling behind. Anticipate the changes so you can guide your clients through them.
The VA industry is built on collaboration, not just competition. To be respected by your peers and potential associates, you must showcase what you know. Whether through guest speaking, networking, or referring work, step up and lead. If you have the expertise, do not be afraid to let it shine.
Business is personal. Staying at the top of your game is about nurturing the relationships you already have. This includes past clients, current leads, and industry colleagues. Servant leadership means looking for ways to help others, which in turn cements your reputation as an essential part of the VA community.
The marketplace might be crowded, but there is always room at the top for those who are professional, direct, and memorable. Remember it is all about know, like and trust!
