How to become a Virtual Assistant? It’s easier if you focus!

“How do I become a Virtual Assistant?” is easily the most frequent question I am asked as a trainer. My top tip for anyone starting out might surprise you: focus on being yourself. We are all unique, and if you want to be an outstanding VA, you must play to your specific strengths.

This isn’t just advice for the first day of your career. It is a mindset that needs to be maintained throughout your entire journey as a business owner.

Stop Overcomplicating Things

We are all guilty of making things harder than they need to be, especially at the beginning. We look at what other VAs are doing and wonder if we should copy their services. We worry that our best skills aren’t “standard” enough, or we contemplate casting our net too wide to catch every possible client.

I want to tell you something important: swimming in your own lane is perfectly okay. You need to stop trying to be everything to everybody. Know what you want to offer, know what you need to track, and understand what is actually important to you and your clients.

Focus is the Backbone of Success

If you want to master how to become a Virtual Assistant, you must learn how to focus. To simplify your business life and actually tackle your schedule, you have to cut out the noise.

In my case, my passion is inspiring, supporting, and challenging people. I love training VAs and helping them reach those “light bulb” moments. At the start of every year, I check my own business against these strategies. If I am not following my own advice, I cannot expect my students to do the same.
