5 Things VAs Should Know About Finding Clients on LinkedIn

12th February 2026

finding clients on linkedin

LinkedIn is an essential tool for any Virtual Assistant looking to build serious business connections. Many people still view it through the lens of traditional employment, thinking it is only for recruiters or job seekers. In reality, it is where CEOs grow their influence and solopreneurs find the freelancers they need to build their dream teams.

You never know who in your network might lead you to your next ideal client. Growing that network steadily makes sense, but if you think blasting users with connection requests is the effective way to work, you need to rethink your strategy.

Nobody likes a spammer

Blasting connection requests or immediately messaging your current network to sell a service is a waste of time. It is spam. How many times have you accepted a request only to be sold to within seconds? Most people delete those connections immediately. Do not be that person.

Do not use people for introductions

When someone accepts your request, take the time to know them and their business before asking for anything. People are protective of their professional networks. If they refer you and you perform poorly, their reputation is damaged. Relationships are a two way street built on being known, liked, and trusted.

The Golden Rule: Treat others as you want to be treated

Use your common sense. If you do not want to be bombarded with cold offers from strangers, do not do it to others. Focus on connecting with people who share common interests or whose businesses complement your own. A personalised message makes a significant difference.

Allow time to build genuine relationships

Your network will not grow overnight. Networking is about planting seeds. Talk about what you do in a natural, authentic way rather than staying in permanent sales mode. Over time, your connections will remember your expertise and refer you when the timing is right.

Provide value

Showcase your expertise by sharing consistently. Write articles, join relevant groups, and explain the problems you solve. When you educate your followers and share your mission, you stay at the forefront of their minds.

If you are ready to take your business to the next level and master these networking strategies, the VA Momentum Course provides the framework you need to succeed.

LinkedIn networking boils down to professional common sense. Be authentic, act professionally, and your ideal clients will be drawn to you because they trust the person behind the business.

Some of my favourite people to follow for hints and tips on LinkedIn are the following:

Sam Rathling of Pipeline44 Group

Top Dog Social Media and their blogs on the subject.

John Espirian and his LinkedIn Lounge.
